Alumni Stories

When I think back to high school, I wasn’t exactly the model student—bright, curious, and admittedly a bit mischievous. But I had potential. With time, guidance, and a few key experiences, that potential turned into purpose. At university, I pursued a double major with two concentrations, served two terms as a student senator, became an international student ambassador, and launched my first business—learning lessons no textbook could teach. Over the past 11 years, I’ve built a career in government and public sector marketing, focusing on big tech. I’ve led multimillion-dollar campaigns and consulted for global leaders like NVIDIA, Adobe, Google, Salesforce, and Juniper Networks. I’ve collaborated with institutions such as the White House, NATO, the EU, and the UN—generating $100M+ in direct pipeline and influencing over $300M. Currently, I work as a federal consultant, helping bridge the gap between technology and public good.

Yara is a professional track and field athlete who started her journey while being a student at JPGS. She has been representing the Saudi national team since 2018 and became the 2nd woman in Saudi history to compete in World Championships in 2023. Lara says “ I’ve learnt to balance my academic and athletic career since school and carried this with me while at Northeastern University and while working at Harvard as an assistant researcher. Currently, Yara is an employee at the Ministry of Energy and a member of the Saudi Federations Athletes Committee as well as the Energy Ecosystem Athletes Committee, a professional athlete at Al-Ittihad Club.

Zubair Junjunia is an award-winning social entrepreneur who founded ZNotes while studying at JPGS. ZNotes is an online learning platform promoting global educational equity. ZNotes has impacted over 5.5 million pupils across 190+ countries. Zubair received the Diana Legacy Award and was appointed a UNDP & Samsung Generation17 Young Leader for ZNotes' contributions to UN SDG4. Zubair holds a master's degree in mathematics from University College London (UCL).

Beyond JPGS

When I first started studying abroad, I really struggled with having no family close to me - But after about three weeks, things began to change when I met a group of friends who welcomed me with open arms. They supported me, made me laugh, and helped me navigate the challenges of living in a new place. Over time, they became more than just friends; they became like family, making this once unfamiliar place feel like home.

After graduating in 2024 from the wonderful Jeddah Prep and Grammar School, where I spent 13 formative years, I made the big move to Canada to begin my university journey. School had already helped me in many ways—teaching me discipline, strong communication skills, and a solid academic foundation—which made the transition smoother in some aspects. Still, starting this new chapter was exciting but filled with uncertainty. I was especially nervous because I had always learned best through hands-on guidance and close interaction with teachers—something that wasn’t easy to find in a large university setting. Suddenly, I was sitting in lecture halls with over 200 students and a single professor. The first semester was tough, and at times I felt overwhelmed and out of place. But I quickly realized that becoming independent meant adapting my learning style. I started watching lecture recordings to review material at my own pace, tackled countless practice questions to reinforce my understanding, and joined study groups where I could discuss problems and stay motivated. These strategies not only helped me keep up with the coursework but also taught me how to take ownership of my learning. I became more independent, learned how to manage my time, and built confidence. Looking back, the experience helped me grow into a more resilient and self-reliant student.
