


The technician’s first priority is to arrange for the provision and clearing of practical work from the laboratories as well as the health and safety of the department. The must provide assistance to the Science Teacher and the students in the lab. Performs routine technical tasks and experiments in laboratories to support scientific investigations. Their duties include setting up laboratories for scientific research, conducting and trialling of lab-based experiments and recording and analysing results. The technician can make a significant contribution to the success of the department and should be part of the decision-making process especially concerning practicalities of particular experiments, alternative procedures, health and safety concerns, ordering of materials, equipment and resources in consultation with the Science teachers.
Performing routine laboratory functions to support scientific experiments and investigations. Must be proficient in all 3 Sciences: Chemistry, Physics and Biology
Must have working knowledge (Or willing to be trained) of all Physics, Biology and Chemistry apparatus/ equipment, Chemicals, Reagents and resources, from Key stage 3 up to and including A levels.
Setting up, testing, adjusting, calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment and apparatus.
Collecting and preparing samples, solutions, cultures and specimens and ensuring safe disposals of waste.
Clearing away of used practical equipment and materials from the labs after practical work has been done.
Purchasing and ordering of chemicals and other consumables required on a weekly basis
Enforcing strict health and safety regulations as stipulated by CLEAPPS.
Staying up to date with relevant scientific developments that can improve the efficiency of lab operations.
Minimum BA Degree or equivalent in Laboratory Science or related major.
0-2 Years Minimum Experience in setting up practical work for Key stage 3 Science and upward and compulsory to have A level practical work experience
